Position Summary and QualificationsAssociate Surgical Intensivist - Per Diem Coverage

Position Summary: Responsible for providing nighttime coverage for surgical intensive care unit. Privileges to admit, evaluate, diagnose, consult and provide pre- and postoperative surgical care, and perform associated procedures to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses and injuries of any system that produce critical illness, particularly the cardiothoracic and vascular systems across patient risk categories and according to the current standard of practice set by the Medical Staff. Direct care and supervision of specific and general care of pre and postoperative surgical patients.


Experience
- Required: Minimum 5 years’ experience in management of SICU
Education
- Required: Current certification or active participation in the examination process leading to certification in Cardiovascular Surgery (ABTS, AOA Board of CTV Surgery), Anesthesia (Am. Board of Anesthesiology), or Critical Care Medicine (Am. Board of Critical Care Medicine) or equivalent credentials as determined by the Department Chair (ex. Board of Certification in Surgery: Specialty Cardiovascular in Thoracic Surgery (Affiliate of Am. Assoc. of Physician Specialists, Inc.)

License and Credentials
- Required: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey
- Current DEA, CDS
- Current BLS and ACLS
- CME requirement as per New Jersey State Medical Licensure requirement and hospital criteria as applicable
- Preferred:
Skills
- Required: Total patient care of conditions involving multiple organ systems, placement of intravascular monitoring lines including both arterial and venous procedures
- Airway management including endotracheal intubation management of patients requiring mechanical ventilatory support including weaning and separation from such devices
- Placement of intraaortic counterpulsation assist devices, critical evaluation of patients requiring continued intensive care, and effects that will tolerate de-escalation of acute care
- Post operative care of cardiothoracic surgical patients
- Care of patients who have undergone surgery of peripheral or central vascular disease
- Care of patient who have undergone surgery of gastrointestinal tract
- Car of patients who have undergone surgery of the peripheral or central nervous system
- Care of patients who have undergone dental / ENT surgery
- Post-operative care of patients who have underwent surgery for treatment of lung disease
- Interpretation of static and dynamic electrocardiograms
- Diagnosis of dysrhythmias ischemic and injury patterns: Intracardiac conduction block, chemotherapy or electrical cardioversion / defibrillation of the before mentioned
- Emergency sternotomy
