Position Summary: To oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of care for patients with a ventricular assist device in collaboration with the Heart Failure Medical Director; to coordinate and manage the patient care of this high-risk patient population throughout the continuum; to optimize the patient's clinical, functional, and psychosocial status; to coordinate VAD evaluation and provide the communication link for coordination of care among the multidisciplinary health care team involved with this patient type; to work with the Heart Failure Medical Director in orchestrating a performance improvement program that focuses on continually improving the outcomes of these patients; to provide leadership and mentorship to the Cardiologists and Nursing Department through application of advanced clinical and experiential skills; and to facilitate participation in heart failure and mechanical circulatory support clinical research trials. Patient care includes care to patients adult (18 through 64 years) and geriatric (65 years and above).
Experience
- Required: Minimum 3-5 years nursing and CV post-surgical management background preferred
Education
- Required: Master�s degree or greater. Graduate from an ANA accredited School of Nursing

License and Credentials
- Required: New Jersey License as a Registered Nurse and Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse through a specialty association, with prescriptive authority. Current CDS and DEA required within 6-months of employment. Approval of credentials and clinical privileges per Center procedure.

Skills
- Required: Maintain required continuing education credits, maintain current CPR and ACLS certification, and completes required education for nurse practitioner re-certification of 30 hours of category 1 contact hours/year. 50% of the overall credits per 5 years must be from an approved ANCC provider. Computer proficiency. Six contact hours in continuing education in pharmacology related to controlled substance including pharmacologic therapy education requirements related to initial and renewal certification.
