Position Summary: Responsible for inventory management and distribution of supplies throughout OR, to include all sterile and non-sterile supplies, instrumentation and medications. Maintains appropriate par levels of all OR supplies, medications and instruments and manages flow on necessary materials through ordering, stocking, transporting, counting and reviewing expiration dates of all supplies. Handles instrumentation in appropriate manner to assure sterility. Manages instrumentation and supplies through a case cart system for all surgical cases. Responsible for transportation and distribution of all equipment and relevant supplies necessary for surgical cases. Maintains equipment in appropriate locations and reports need for repair/replacement. Responsible for maintaining sterile technique while providing assistance to OR RN staff in opening of sterile surgical instruments, equipment and supplies in preparation of the surgical field. Performs all activities related to appropriate decontamination of the surgical suite and entire operating room area according to established procedures. Maintains cleanliness of Operating Room environment. Responsible for transportation of equipment, supplies, specimens, blood products, and medication to and from appropriate departments. Perform pre-operative surgical shave prep on patients, as needed. Assists OR RN staff with prepping and transfers of surgical patients.
Experience: 0-3 months Supply management/housekeeping/SPD experience preferred. Knowledge of sterile technique preferred.
Education: High School Graduate of GED
Required License / Credentials: None
Other Required Skills: Good communication skills. Ability to read/write and speak English at high school level or above.
Contact With Others: Regular internal/external contact with others requiring tact, cooperation and discretion in routine matters only.
Supervision Given: None
Supervision Received: Performs duties independently, following established routine, and reporting immediately to the Operating Room Charge Nurse or OR Nurse Manager any issue needing immediate attention. May assist OR RN, under direction of RN, to perform tasks to assist RN in preparation for patient care.
80 hours per pay period / varied shifts / on-call weeknights, weekends and holidays
The minimum starting rate for this position is $16.00
